On May 25, 2010, Erica and Jeffrey Henderson, proud attachment parents to five children, chose to assert their Fourth Amendment Rights. The Pasadena police department used a battering ram to gain entry to their home without a warrant or court order. Jeffrey Henderson was beat without cause and taken into custody, leaving Erica (who was due to give birth to their sixth child) and the children without a door in an unsafe neighborhood.
Erica gave birth to their sixth child immediately upon Jeffrey’s release from jail.
Later, the Hendersons were charged with “child endangerment” and “resisting an officer” and jailed, Jeffrey for the second time. Unable to care for them in jail, the children were placed in custody. The Hendersons asked to find a friend of family member to take the children, whom could have arrived in minutes, but were refused.
On June 21, 2011 all charges against Erica and Jeffery were dismissed, yet DCFS still retained custody of their children.
Pending a family court hearing on July 13, 2011, reunification of the children to their parents was expected, as all reasons for the seizure of the Henderson children are now debunked. Instead, the Henderson’s natural family lifestyle and religious beliefs are being used as accusations against them in court, in order to hold the children hostage in the foster care system.
